Tilt-Wall Process and Design-Build Deliver Successful Project

Elmhurst Group, a Pittsburgh-based organization that invests in commercial real estate and operating businesses, wanted to develop a speculative office building in Cranberry Township, about 20 miles north of downtown Pittsburgh. Having worked with Al. Neyer on seven previous projects, Elmhurst Group contacted Al. Neyer to provide its dependable design-build services for the project, known as Cranberry Crossroads.

Al. Neyer utilized its expertise in the tilt-wall process, which refers to the way the building is constructed with walls cast out of concrete panels lying flat on the ground that are lifted simultaneously to receive the roof. Al. Neyer streamlined its schedule to complete the office building at breakneck speed and overcame a common complication with multiple-story tilt projects – the lack of slab area – by stacking panels in a perfectly precise manner, minimizing crane downtime, and using repetition to make work more efficient.

The design team incorporated aesthetically-pleasing elements to the office building, including inlaid brick to enhance the tilt walls, functional drip edges and sloped window sills. Al. Neyer handled the planning, coordinating and scheduling of the tilt-wall process with ease, resulting in an economical tilt-wall solution for a three-story, Class A office space and a pleased client.
