Al. Neyer Announces Strategic Leadership Changes for In-House Architecture Group following Retirement of Rob Thrun

CINCINNATI, OH, June 10, 2024 – Al. Neyer, a leader in commercial real estate with over 130 years of experience, announces a new era for its full-service in-house architecture and design capabilities. After a 24-year tenure with the team, Rob Thrun, SVP, Architecture, has retired. His time at the firm was marked with growth and his thumbprint is on more than a hundred projects across the Greater Cincinnati region, as well as Al. Neyer’s projects in Nashville, Pittsburgh, and Raleigh. Some of which include The Offices at Vernon Manor, Encore Urban Living, Seven at Broadway, Luxottica Retail Headquarters, AK Steel Research & Innovation Center, and Tempur-Pedic International Headquarters.

“It has been a wonderful journey with Al. Neyer for the past 24 years. I am immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together and grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an innovative and dedicated team,” said Rob Thrun. “As I retire, I look back on my time here with great fondness and satisfaction, knowing that the company is in good hands and will continue to thrive and grow. Thank you to all my colleagues and partners for the support and collaboration over the years. I look forward to the next chapter and the new adventures that lie ahead.”

With Rob’s departure, Doug Kramer, VP, Architecture, and Pat Moore, VP, Design will now serve as the new leaders of the in-house architecture and design group at Al. Neyer. Kramer will serve as the President of the group, which is comprised of two studios, and will be overseeing the multifamily, medical office, and corporate office projects. Moore will lead the industrial and suburban office studio.

Collectively, Kramer and Moore have nearly five decades of experience and have championed countless landmark projects, built key client relationships, and managed a growing team. They have both contributed to over 75 built projects throughout their careers at Al. Neyer, including projects for clients like International Paper, Luxottica Retail, The Christ Hospital, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, REI Co-Op, and Simpson Strong-Tie. Kramer also worked on three multifamily towers in downtown Cincinnati that were pivotal to Al. Neyer’s growth in the product type.

“We’ve seen significant changes in our architecture practice over the years,” said Doug Kramer, VP, Architecture. “From a small team of four architects to a robust group capable of handling complex projects, our growth has been intentional and focused on maintaining high standards. Our ability to think like developers, balancing design excellence with economic feasibility, sets us apart and adds immense value to our projects. I’m excited to further explore how our architecture team can utilize data to improve processes and make richer decisions as we grow alongside the overall organization.”

Al. Neyer’s in-house architecture team has grown to include 11 professionals, including 8 licensed architects. Whether working on speculative or build-to-suit projects, the team’s deep understanding of how changing work and lifestyle trends influence architecture and their developer mindset allows them to guide clients at every step, balancing schedule, budget, quality, performance, and aesthetics. Al. Neyer highly values sustainability, with 3 in-house LEED Accredited Professionals on the architectural team leading the Sustainability Committee. This has allowed the firm to integrate sustainable strategies, commit to lowering its carbon footprint, and continue to add to its LEED Certified building list. The emphasis on cooperative education programs is integral to their approach, supporting students in defining their career paths and fostering a connection between educational institutions and the industry. This initiative contributes to a continuous pipeline of skilled professionals, as evidenced by Kramer’s own journey from a co-op student to a leadership position.

The architecture team works closely with internal and external clients, leveraging the design-build delivery method that has been a hallmark of the company since its early days. This approach ensures seamless collaboration between architects, construction teams, subcontractors, and municipalities, resulting in projects that meet critical success factors and exceed client expectations. The firm’s ability to integrate architectural design with development and construction processes sets it apart, providing clients with a one-stop solution for their real estate needs.

“Working closely with our design-build teams allows us to create solutions that balance all critical project factors,” said Pat Moore, VP, Design. “Our collaborative approach means we can deliver projects efficiently and to the highest standards, whether it’s an industrial space or a high-rise residential building.”

“We are deeply grateful for Rob’s exceptional contributions over the past 24 years. His dedication, leadership, and vision have been instrumental in growing our architecture muscle and shaping Al. Neyer into who we are today. While we will miss his presence and expertise, we celebrate his well-deserved retirement,” said Molly North, CEO. “At the same time, we’re excited to embark on the next chapter for our business and the services we provide our clients with Doug and Pat at the helm. They will undoubtedly drive our continued growth and success supporting partners across our growing footprint across the eastern U.S.”
