Global Steel Manufacturer Relies on Al. Neyer to Develop, Design, Build Innovation Center

AK Steel is a world leader in flat-rolled carbon, stainless, and electrical steel. The Fortune 500 company badly needed a research and innovation facility that would attract top talent and support a research-based work environment. The company chose Al. Neyer for its ability to develop, design, build and finance challenging projects with multiple stakeholders, including the City of Middletown, the Warren County Port Authority, Fortress Capital Credit, AK Steel, Al. Neyer and Henkle Schueler.

The new center is home to approximately 75 researchers, scientists, and engineers. This project includes a variety of challenging construction dynamics, including traditional office space, conference facilities, laboratories, and pilot lines that enable simulating the company’s steel manufacturing operations. The structural steel frame holds a concrete tilt-wall and precast exterior with stainless steel composite architectural panels that are custom fabricated using AK Steel manufactured coil stock.
